Launch of the central register of health insurance contracts for foreigners
Insurance companies offering commercial health insurance for foreigners have a legal obligation to send information on all contracts to this register. Without this, it is not possible to offer these insurances. We are pleased to inform you that Maxima Insurance Company is also connected to this register.
As of 20 September 2024, exactly one year after the amendment to Act No.326/1999 Coll., on the residence of foreigners in the Czech Republic, the central register of health insurance contracts for foreigners began to operate. This register, maintained by the Czech Insurance Office (ČKP), operates similarly to the register of compulsory liability insurance contracts.
Insurance companies offering commercial health insurance for foreigners are legally obliged to send information on all contracts to this register. Without this, these insurances cannot be offered. We are pleased to inform you that Maxima Insurance Company is also connected to this register.
The sending of data applies not only to newly concluded comprehensive health insurance contracts, but also to all active contracts, including those concluded before 20 September 2024. This also includes contracts for necessary and urgent healthcare for foreigners. The register can be accessed by healthcare institutions and the Aliens Police, who can quickly check whether a foreigner has valid health insurance and whether it has been terminated early.
We urge intermediaries and clients to ensure that the period of insurance is not interrupted, as interruptions can cause complications when applying for an extension of the residence permit.
We believe that the launch of this register will contribute to greater transparency and reduce the number of uninsured foreigners.
