Maxima renegotiates health insurance for foreigners
Prague, 19 September 2023 - The long-discussed amendment to the Act on the Residence of Foreigners on the Territory of the Czech Republic (No. 326/1999 Coll.) finally came into force on 19 September 2023. This step, which has been anticipated for many months, abolishes the monopoly of the VZP Insurance Company, so that other entities outside of PVZP can now also arrange travel health insurance for foreigners. This includes the Czech insurance company MAXIMA, which has prepared a comprehensive offer in several versions. Let's take a closer look at their insurance limits and other details.
"From 20 September, Maxima insurance company intermediaries can again arrange health insurance for foreigners in its comprehensive version," explains Roman Jandík, Director of Retail Insurance. "Clients can choose from two basic variants within the product offer, which differ in terms of insurance coverage. The basic variant Standard fully complies with the requirements of the law and the increased limits to the level of EUR 400 thousand. The insurance also covers medical expenses within the Schengen area countries up to EUR 30 thousand," he specifies.
Maxima pojišt'ovna has newly introduced the Exclusive insurance variant with an increased limit of insurance coverage up to EUR 600 thousand. It covers medical expenses in the Schengen countries up to EUR 100 thousand, but in addition, this variant also covers the preexisting health risks and includes the MaxCare Programme with a limit of CZK 3,000 in the scope of contribution to health and support programmes (e.g. optional vaccinations, plastic fixations, hormonal contraception, aids for the disabled, etc.) according to the scope defined in the GTC.
For whom is the insurance intended?
Health insurance for foreigners is intended for those who are not covered by the public health insurance system of the Czech Republic. There are 2 groups - foreigners who are planning a short-term stay of up to 90 days (the Necessary and Urgent Health Care product is intended for them). For foreigners who plan to stay in the Czech Republic for more than 90 days (the so-called long-term stay) there is a product called Comprehensive Health Insurance for Foreigners. Maxima offers 2 types of this comprehensive insurance, namely Standard and Exclusive, which differ mainly in the amount of insurance coverage. Clients can use more than 140 contracted facilities, and apart from dental treatment, which is paid for in cash, Maxima insurance company will settle any compensation itself directly with the doctor or medical facility.
